Apple Strudel (Apfelstrudel)
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a bowl, mix apples, sugar, raisins, cinnamon, and breadcrumbs.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle.
- Spread the apple mixture over two-thirds of the pastry, leaving a border around the edges.
- Fold the empty third of the pastry over the filling, then carefully roll up the strudel like a log. Pinch the seams to seal.
- Place on a baking sheet, seam-side down. Brush with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
- Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and slicing.
