Apple Strudel (Apfelstrudel)

A delicious Apple Strudel

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix apples, sugar, raisins, cinnamon, and breadcrumbs.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle.
  4. Spread the apple mixture over two-thirds of the pastry, leaving a border around the edges.
  5. Fold the empty third of the pastry over the filling, then carefully roll up the strudel like a log. Pinch the seams to seal.
  6. Place on a baking sheet, seam-side down. Brush with the beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
  8. Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and slicing.
